St Anthony's Girls School Hampstead

Our Ethos

St. Anthony's aims to provide high quality education in a caring, supportive and Catholic environment, infused by Christ's Gospel, in order that each of our pupils is able to develop fully as an individual, well-adjusted to the wider community.

Academic Life

St. Anthony's provides a broad and balanced academic curriculum leading to the Common Entrance Examination at age 13. In addition to the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT the boys are taught the following subjects from Year 1: French, Mandarin, R.S., History, Geography, Art, Design Technology.

In the Senior House all pupils are taught Latin and, after school, they have the opportunity to study Ancient Greek and Arabic. Syllabuses are broadly in line with the National Curriculum but do not follow it slavishly. The history syllabus, for example, is chronological and, consequently, does not follow the National Curriculum at all. The requirements of Common Entrance and the entrance examinations set by the leading London and other Independent schools determines much of what is taught in Years 5 to 8.

Complementing the formal school curriculum are a number of enriching hobbies and discussion groups offered by the staff.  For example, pupils can now attend philosophy discussion groups, chess clubs etc.  The development of the music, drama, art and computing facilities has also provided an even richer diet of extra curricular provision.
